Movement Mentors

Join us for an invigorating, intensive and life-changing week of camp. The professional dancers from JDG along with students from Marshall University's Dance and Theatre department team up to create a unique perspective on teaching the arts. Through Movement Mentors each middle school aged student will be paired with a mentor for the week to help support and encourage.

Each day will begin with intense somatics studies which will highlight using your body in proper alignment while gaining strength and control. Next, both students and mentors will take a thought provoking technique class (see weekly schedule) and then move into lunch. After lunch everyone will move into a creative arts project where students will focus on creating with a positive purpose. Open dialog between students and mentors, as well as the whole group will create an environment free of judgement and full of support. Next, all participates will engage in either a movement improvisation or yoga workshop.

The workshop will culminate with a Friday evening gala performance. Art exhibit and writings display of what happened over the course of the week. Friends and family are encouraged to attend to support what these amazing women and young ladies have accomplished over the week.
